NEW YORK (PIX11) – The cause of death for a carriage horse that passed out and died on a Hell’s Kitchen sidewalk has been released, officials announced Friday afternoon.

A necropsy found that Lady, the 15-year-old carriage horse, had a small tumor in her adrenal gland that likely caused an aortic rupture. The necropsy was performed on Wednesday by a pathologist at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

They called the tumor a “silent killer” event that typically comes without warning symptoms.

Officers received a 911 call for an injured horse on Tuesday at around 2:30 p.m. near West 51st Street and 11th Avenue. Police said the horse was found on the ground and later pronounced dead. Lady was
