MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Gov. Tony Evers announced on Friday that he vetoed Assembly Bill 269, which impacts benefits for gig workers.

These workers, namely drivers for delivery and rideshare companies, are classified as independent contractors, not employees, which limits the benefits they have access to.

The legislation would have established a new legal framework for these drivers, exempting them from state minimum wage, unemployment insurance, and workers’ compensation laws under certain conditions.
