AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - The Colonial Theatre in Augusta in the early 1900s used to be the hub for watching silent films. This weekend, they’re hosting a Silent Film Festival in Gardiner to highlight that art form as well as the era.
Saturday will be the third year of the event to be held at Johnson Hall Opera House. The theme this year is a celebration of canine stars.
Of the seven films to be shown, three will spotlight Jean the Vitagraph Dog who was from Eastport and the first American dog star in films.
The event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Colonial Theatre which is undergoing a major restoration.
