CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) -- The Waccamaw River flows throughout Conway -- increasing the possibility of flooding for both residences and businesses -- and city leaders hope new water level sensors will help better prepare their residents for the next time water levels become a concern.

At a meeting on Monday, the city council approved the purchase of five water level sensors for the city. The sensors provide real-time information about water levels, including what the normal ranges are and when the levels begin to rise.

June Wood with the city said one sensor is currently installed at the Conway Marina, but that one sensor isn't enough.

"We need some additional sensors in some flood-prone areas," she said.
