PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The nonprofit House of Hope is still kicking after experiencing a major funding cut in 2024.

“Our biggest programs right now are re-entry and victim support. We also had the opportunity to hold our second-ever youth summer program at the day treatment,” explained Executive Director Corine Barnes.

In prior reporting, 25News covered the saga of House of Hope, which was granted $650,00 by the Peoria City and County Health Department in 2024 to run a program called “Cure Violence.”

That money came from the American Rescue Plan Act, but was pulled back in 2024 when the PCCHD was displeased with a lack of progress.

However, Barnes said it’s almost a blessing in disguise.
