DECATUR, Ala. - The family of Jaiden DeJarnett, a teenager who died during a high-speed chase with Decatur police in 2023, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city, Mayor Tab Bowling, and two officers.

Family attorney Stanley Stallworth said the lawsuit claims that the city and its officers violated DeJarnett's constitutional rights. Stallworth emphasized that Decatur's policy states pursuits should only begin if there is strong evidence of a felony or if the driver poses an imminent threat to the public, which he argued DeJarnett did not.
