(WKBN) - People may have noticed more electric motor bicycles and scooters on the road recently, but there are a few things to know before taking one for a ride.

State law in Ohio actually covers these devices, which are referred to as "low-speed micromobility devices." They are allowed on public roads and sidewalks, but riders have to be at least 14 years old, and at that age, an adult has to be with the kids to supervise. They must also yield to pedestrians and obey all traffic laws, though they don't need a license.

"We've actually received complaints, you know, people riding these scooters on sidewalks, on the roadway," said Poland Township Police Chief Greg Wilson.
