LEEDS, Ala. (WIAT) -- The family of 24-year-old Giovanna Hernandez hopes she will be released on bond from a federal detention center in Louisiana after Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said she was detained by ICE officials after being stopped by police for reckless driving on Tuesday.

Allen Shabani, the attorney for Giovanna Hernandez, said his client is undocumented but has no criminal background. He said she was transferred from the Pickens County Jail to the Richwood Correctional Center in Richwood, Louisiana on Friday.

Shabani added that Hernandez, who came to the U.S. with her younger brother as an unaccompanied minor at the age of 7, is afforded due process and should be able to attend a removal hearing and a bond hearing.
