An officer was fatally shot in Atlanta on Friday while responding to a call of an active shooter at an intersection near Emory University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, officials said.
The officer died of his injuries from a gunshot wound, Interim Chief Greg Padrick of the DeKalb County Police Department said.

Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said 911 calls about an active shooter came in around 4:50 p.m. for 1600 Clifton Road, immediately in front of the CDC campus. Emory University sent out an active shooting alert to its Atlanta campus, then lifted it about an hour and a half later.
