COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Thousands of bridges across South Carolina are 60 years or older and in need of repairs.

Even with state leaders allocating millions of dollars for more bridge repairs, some drivers and advocates are pushing for a faster repair process.

After combing through 2024 federal records, I found that 103 bridges throughout the Midlands are deemed poorly rated bridges. That means these bridges need either rehabilitation or replacement.

Just yesterday, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) hosted a public meeting as the replacement process moves forward.

Officials tell me that when a bridge is rated poorly, it doesn’t mean it’s unsafe, as those bridges are closed immediately.
