NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana State Police are investigating after a trooper fired his weapon during a traffic stop attempt Thursday night in New Orleans.

Just after 9 p.m., troopers on proactive patrol tried to pull over a vehicle in the city. The driver refused to stop, sparking a pursuit.

The chase ended on Pleasure Street at a dead end. Investigators said the driver tried to get away by reversing toward troopers, hitting an LSP-marked patrol car. That’s when a trooper fired his service weapon.

The suspect sped away and has not been found. State Police said there are no known injuries to the suspect or the responding troopers.
