MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A man was killed Thursday morning after he was hit by a car on Interstate 40 in Downtown Memphis, police said.

Memphis Police (MPD) said officers were called just before 5:20 a.m. to eastbound I-40 at Danny Thomas Boulevard for a "man down call." They arrived to find a man had died after being struck by a car.

Part of the interstate was shut down for hours as MPD investigated.

Police called the crash a hit-and-run and asked anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
