SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Thunderstorms were generous Friday with over two inches (2.17” at SRQ. Lightning was dangerous Friday and frequent afternoon lightning develops again this weekend. Lightning is the number one weather-related killer in Florida. Thunderstorm action should be widespread this weekend. A weak disturbance over Florida combined with abundant tropical moisture in the atmosphere is responsible for the greater chance of thunderstorms. The disturbance moves out to the Gulf after the weekend, so thunderstorms may be more hit-and-miss during the work week.

We have a Marginal Risk (at least 5%) for flooding or ponding of water with areas of heavy rain possible with our weekend afternoon storms. Highs could hold in the 80s this weekend with the higher chance of rain.
