RIDGEFIELD — On Aug. 2, Abrams Park in Ridgefield was filled with the reverberating sound of calling ducks and geese.
However, these were not birds, but hunters from four states that were competing in a duck and goose calling competition.
Callers, judges, and sponsors gathered in the park to pick which of the callers would represent the states of Washington, Oregon, and the Pacific Northwest region at the 90th version of the Worlds’s Duck Calling Championships and Wings Over the Prairie Festival in Stuttgart, Arkansas. There were also competitions for youngsters, novice callers, and others.
The competitors took the stage for two-minute calling sessions while judges, hidden from the competitors in a screened-off area behind the stage, scored the efforts.
