Atlantic City firefighters are battling a three-alarm blaze at a former city school on Friday evening.
Smoke from the fire at the New Jersey Avenue School, which dates to 1925, can be seen for miles .
The fire was first reported at 6:05 p.m., according to a statement from the city . The building, at New Jersey and Arctic avenues, was undergoing demolition and was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The fire spread to all three floors in the center of the building, Andrew Kramer, a city spokesperson, said. The Atlantic City Fire Department is receiving assistance from fire departments in Ventnor, Pleasantville and Absecon. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
