ORCHARD PARK - Josh Allen will be wearing a baseball cap on the sidelines Saturday afternoon when the Buffalo Bills play their lone home preseason game against the New York Giants .

There was never any doubt that this would be the case for two clear reasons: It’s pointless to expose the reigning MVP to injury in a game that he will gain nothing from playing; and the Bills have a full-fledged competition to determine who Allen’s backup will be between Mitch Trubisky and Mike White. Every live rep they can get will ultimately factor into the final decision.

Coach Sean McDermott said most of the healthy starters will play, though perhaps only a quarter or so, which is in line with how he has typically handled the preseason opener.
