A small cadre of defenders was on the precipice of squeezing the fifth-year senior out of the pocket. But before they could get to him, LSU's starting quarterback aborted the rush.

Nussmeier found enough space to run for an extra few yards before ducking out of bounds. But as Nussmeier left the field — exiting the field for sophomore quarterback Michael Van Buren and the second team offense — he departed slowly, and with a limp.

As coach Brian Kelly revealed on Friday, Nussmeier is dealing with patellar tendinitis. Kelly took him out of practice early on Wednesday due to the ailment, sources told The Advocate, but he returned on Friday and practiced fully on Saturday.
