FLINT, MI - Engines roared only a hundred feet from eager fans as high-speed boats raced by at the Mott Lake Regatta on Saturday, Aug. 9.

The two-day competition kicked off with testing and a showing of vintage racing boats as attendees enjoyed a beer garden with activities, live music and vendors.

Just northeast of the spectator’s beach, two large cranes gently lifted boats on and off their trailers. As boats sped away, the powerful engines sent shockwaves through the crowd, with some spectators covering their ears.

“I’ve been coming here since it started,” said Glenn Schmidt, who’s been around the sport for decades. “I love it. I love racing.”
