PERRYVILLE -- On a hot August morning in Perryville, there was a field full of watermelons and volunteers picking them for a greater cause -- feeding hungry families -- at the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance's annual Watermelon Crawl.
For the first time in Watermelon Crawl history, the hunger relief organization partnered with Heifer International to grow the watermelons, harvested at this year's event at Heifer Ranch.
Since 2010, the alliance has held the event to harvest watermelons for the Arkansas Food Bank as part of its efforts to fight food insecurity in the state.
On Saturday, volunteers, some of them shuttled from Little Rock on a bus provided by the alliance, came to Heifer Ranch to pick the watermelons, filling up many massive boxes along the field. The alliance provided snac
