Bay County expected its share of thrills at the Pony League World Series.

It may have gotten more than its share in Game 1.

After dueling Corpus Christi on even terms through seven innings of regulation and two bonus frames, Bay County ran out of steam in an 8-3, 10-inning loss at famed Lew Hays Field.

“It’s always a good feeling to play a competitive game against a good team,” Bay County coach Craig Revette said. “We would have loved for the game to end in our favor, but everyone left the field knowing that Bay County is a very good baseball team.”

The loss sends Bay County Red into must-win mode when it returns to action at 6 p.m. Sunday in the 10-team, double-elimination tournament. Bay County gets a taste of the international flavor of the event, taking on Grosseto, Italy.
