CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Sunday is National S'mores Day, which recognizes the most popular summer treat.
The National Day Calendar states that s'mores consist of a roasted marshmallow with a layer of chocolate bar that is sandwiched between two pieces of graham cracker.
Where did the s'more originate?
The origin of this snack is credited to the entrepreneur Alec Barnum. The first recorded version of the recipe, however, can be found in the 1927 publication of Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts were not the first ones to make s’mores, yet Girl Scout groups describe them in their reports as early as 1925. Some of the earlier recipes used the name "Some Mores." It is unclear, however, when the word "S'mores" became the more common name.
