MOUNT VERNON — After the July 27 deadly shooting that left the community reeling, United Way of South Central Illinois is stepping up to offer free counseling sessions for young people impacted by the incident.

The first session will be held on 6 p.m. Monday at the NAACP office, 1000 South Ninth Street in Mount Vernon.
