When most Londoners ponder the Channel Islands, their thoughts typically gravitate towards the two larger islands, Jersey and Guernsey. However, there are in fact eight permanently inhabited islands, along with a smattering of uninhabited islets.

One such island is Alderney, the third largest in the English Channel. This petite island, merely three miles long and home to just over 2,000 people, falls under the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

Despite this, Alderney operates autonomously. It has its own distinct government separate from that of Guernsey, granting it a degree of autonomy and fostering a robust sense of local pride among its inhabitants.
