CHARLESTON — Despite being unable to move in, buyers snatched up seven condominiums in the Dockside building within the last week, and the majority of the sellers unloaded at losses totaling between $500,000 and $1 million.

Residents have expressed heartbreak more than six months into their city-mandated evacuation that forced them out of their homes with only what they could carry and no return date — all while still paying their mortgages, taxes, homeowners fees and other expenses.

The sales of two units closed July 31, with three more on Aug. 1 and two more on Aug. 4, according to county real estate records.

The prices for the mix of one- and two-bedroom condominiums ranged from $90,000 to $120,000. Pre-evacuation purchase prices for the same units were $430,000 to $1.125 million.
