MOUNT HERMAN — The Gerhart family had a few reasons to celebrate Friday morning.

Not only was it the first day of school for Isabella, who’s in the second grade at Twin Springs Elementary School, but it was also her birthday.

She turned 8.

Adding to the festive flair, it so happens that her father, Mike Gerhart, was also marking another trip around the sun himself.

“I turn 45,” he told the Register & Bee while waiting in line to let his daughter off at school. “She was born on my 37th birthday.”

On the final day of the work week, schools across Pittsylvania County welcomed students to the first day of a new school year.
