A violent inmate at the prison in Rush City left four correctional officers injured.

The encounter with the inmate happened around 3:20 p.m. Saturday, with one officer suffering a puncture wound from a shank. The Minnesota Department of Corrections says the officer's injuries are non-life-threatening, but the officer is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Three other officers who restrained the inmate after the initial attack were taken to a hospital for evaluation, and they've all since been released.

What prompted the attack? "Facility staff were doing routine cell searches when they encountered an incarcerated person who was suspected of being in possession of homemade alcohol," the DOC said. "When officers approached, the incarcerated person assaulted staff with a makeshift weapon."
