SPARKS, Nev. ( KOLO /Gray News) - Police in Nevada say the parents of a 3-month-old boy were arrested after an autopsy found their son’s cause of death was infant malnutrition, starvation and dehydration.

Giovonnye Hart, 22, and Hailey Moniz, 23, are charged with first-degree murder in perpetration or attempted perpetration of abuse of a child under 14 years of age and child neglect.

The Sparks Police Department says the suspects were arrested Thursday following the results of an autopsy by the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office on their 3-month-old son.

Police say Hart and Moniz took the baby to the St. Mary’s Medical Center’s emergency room April 5. He was unresponsive with only a faint heartbeat. Medical staff attempted lifesaving measures, but the baby died.
