While the Denver Broncos played several starters in a 30-9 win over the 49ers on Saturday night at Levi's Stadium, San Francisco opted to sit most of its top players, including quarterback Brock Purdy .

That opened the door for 2021 first-round NFL draft pick Mac Jones to get significant reps as the 49ers' starting signal-caller.

Jones, on his third NFL team and in line to be Purdy's backup, got off to a stellar start, hitting rookie wide receiver Jordan Watkins for a 50-yard completion on the third play of the game. Five plays later, running back Patrick Taylor Jr. capped the possession with a 5-yard touchdown run to give San Francisco an early lead.
