MIDLAND, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- One person was critically injured after driving a work van that crashed into a telephone pole and an ATM, according to Midland Fire and Rescue.
Around 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, crews responded to the crash at the Fifth Third Bank on Highway 24/27. Officials said a work van left the road, struck and snapped a telephone pole before crashing into an ATM and the building.
Cabarrus EMS responded to treat one person in critical condition who was taken by helicopter to a local hospital. The person had to be extricated after the vehicle was stabilized by firefighters, officials said.
Traffic was shut down on Hwy 601 to establish a landing zone for the helicopter.
