CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved K9 officers, Koda, who passed away on August 12, 2025.

Koda faithfully served as a dual-purpose patrol and explosive detection canine from 2017 until his retirement in 2023.

Throughout his career, Koda stood on the front lines -- tracking suspects, locating evidence and ensuring public safety. Whether it was a late-night call, a high-risk operation or a major public event, officers say Koda’s focus never wavered.
