MILFORD, Maine — A 44-year-old man was arrested after deputies said he entered a vehicle in Milford early Saturday, fired a handgun multiple times inside, and later caused a disturbance at a store.

The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office said deputies received a 911 call around 12:54 a.m. from a County Road resident who reported hearing "very loud bangs" and unusual noises outside his home near Dr. Lewis S. Libby School.

The caller reviewed surveillance footage and saw a man on his property entering his vehicle, the sheriff's office said. The investigation found the man had found a handgun inside the vehicle and discharged it several times, causing damage before leaving, according to the sheriff's office. The firearm was left behind.
