The City of Whitehorse is advising residents that they will be closing a part of Sumanik Drive throughout the middle of August.

The portion of the road at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre is being closed to relocate a fire hydrant. The closure will run from Aug. 11 to 24, according to an Aug. 7 advisory from the City. There will be a detour in place.

The tennis courts at the top of the road will remain open, according to the City, and emergency vehicles will have an alternative route available.

The fire hydrant relocation is part of the larger $9.3-million renovations taking place at the Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre. The money is coming from both the federal government and the Yukon government . The renovations are expected to be done around September 2026, according to the
