Defending champion
Fort Cherry. Last season, the Rangers won the second title in school history and also became the first team to repeat in Class 1A since Clairton in 2016. Fort Cherry slipped past Clairton, 21-20, in the championship game at Acrisure Stadium, and, to no one’s surprise, the game-winning play was an ad-lib on 4th and goal from the 13 by quarterback Matt Sieg. He scrambled around until he found running back Ryan Huey in the flat to cap a 13-play, 82-yard drive with 4:56 remaining in regulation. He passed for 161 yards and a score, ran for 87 yards and two scores and had six tackles on defense.
