AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man accused of fatally shooting a 24-year-old woman at the door of her residence as her 3-year-old son stood nearby has been found guilty of murder.

Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich says a jury convicted Denzel Pope, 20, of two counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of having weapons under disability.

Pope is the second person convicted in connection with the death of Paige Calich in July 2024. In May, Pope’s sister, Corvette Pope, 26, pleaded guilty to one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of obstructing justice, according to prosecutors.
