Georgia athletic salaries for coaches and staff increased again in the most recent annual figures, but the pace of the spending on non-clerical employees slowed with the launch of $20.5 million in revenue sharing for athletes.

The number of total employees ticked down slightly from 314 to 308 after rising by 32 people the previous year.

Georgia is paying $63.05 million in total annual salaries, according to data received by the Athens Banner-Herald under an open records request.

That’s up from $60.84 million a year earlier, but two years ago the total paid to athletic staff was $53.74 million. The growth of spending went from 13.2% to 3.6% as direct payments to athletes began as part of the House settlement including more than $2.5 million for new scholarships.
