One of the country's most notorious sex offenders has died in prison while serving a life sentence for his sickening crimes.

Anthony Barron, formerly of Grove, in Oxfordshire, was handed a life sentence in 2007 for 87 offences of sexual abuse of children including attempted rape, sexual assault and making indecent photographs.

Barron, who has 54 at the time of sentencing, filmed himself abusing children as young as three.

Oxford Crown Court heard how he targeted 11 girls aged from three to 12 over a nine-year period beginning in 1997.

The prison ombudsman confirmed on Saturday that Barron died on July 18 at HMP Ashfield, near Bristol .

According to the Mirror , the 72-year-old's cause of death has not been revealed.
