Spanning both peninsulas, Michigan has over 4,000 miles of state-designated ORV trails space and for one weekend they’re all free to traverse.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is inviting all motorists to use the state’s trails, scramble areas, county, state forest and national forest roads during Free ORV weekend Aug. 16-17.

Here’s what to know before you gas up and get out there.

Free ORV Weekend waives license and permit fees

During the August 16-17 weekend, riders can access more than 4,000 miles of state-designated trails without purchasing the usual ORV license ($26.25) or trail permit ($10). The entrance fee at Holly Oaks ORV Park is also waived.
