Gardeners can get help planning out their autumn plantings on Aug. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Nora Navra Library, 1902 St. Bernard Ave.

The Master Gardeners of Greater New Orleans will hold a free hourlong class highlighting the best things to plant for the season.

Attendees will learn about:

LSU-recommended varieties tailored to the current growing season

Planting and fertilization rates

Common diseases and pests to watch out for during each growing season.

MASKING INDIANS: An all-ages workshop at the New Orleans Public Library's REACH Center will feature a Black Masking Indian song class led by Spy Boy Walter, who will teach attendees the words and meanings of the Indian songs and help provide a deeper understanding of the Masking Indian Culture.
