With the summer tourism season just past the half-way point, Alana Kenopic is optimistic.

Sault Ste. Marie’s manager of travel and tourism said the numbers are steady and on par with recent previous years, despite the challenges that linger in the background.

“We continue to see good numbers of U.S. visitors here and we continue to send out the message that we welcome them and want them here,” Kenopic said.

For Canadians, the challenge is the high cost of living, something that often results in curbed spending, of which vacations top the list.

The tariff war between Canada and the United States appears to result in more Canadians travelling in Canada – something that’s good for the local tourism market, and luckily, the American tourists are still crossing the border.
