BEMIDJI, Minn. – Northwoods Battered Women’s Shelter (NBWS) has completed construction on its new $2.7 million facility located at Hannah Ave and Pine Ridge Street in Bemidji, Minn. The shelter is now open.

Serving Beltrami and Cass counties, NBWS is a domestic violence shelter and advocacy program that provides emergency crisis shelter and advocacy to victims and survivors of intimate partner violence. Advocates are on duty at the shelter 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, a release states .

For more than 20 years, Northwoods Battered Women’s Shelter has urgently needed a new facility. In 2024, the shelter turned away more than 400 victims and survivors due to lack of space.
