Chicago police are warning bargoers in River North and Streeterville to be on high alert after a slew of recent violent robberies in the area targeting "intoxicated" people in the early morning hours as bars and restaurants are closing.
The alert, sent by the Chicago Police Department Friday, details eight instances of the crime, dating back to June 16. A similar notice was sent out by police earlier in the summer.
In each of the incidents, the suspects attempt to befriend drunk people walking near bars and restaurants in the early morning hours, police said, chatting victims up in a friendly matter.
The suspects, believed to be a group of three to five males, then forcibly rob the victims, police said, beating them with their bare hands and fists.
