Popular frosted sugar cookies sold at Target stores in 20 states including Illinois are being recalled due to the presence of "foreign material," according to the Food and Drug Administration.

The recall, initiated July 22, applies to Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies sold in packs of 10 with Lot number 251915. According to the FDA, the reason for the recall was because the cookies could contain pieces of wood.

More than 800 cases of cookies were recalled, the FDA said, with more than 12,000 cookies impacted.

The affected cookies were shipped to three distribution centers located in Ohio, Connecticut and Maryland. They were sold in retail stores in more than a dozen states, the FDA said, including in Connecticut, Washington D.C., Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachuse
