Extreme heat is set to impact both the Northeast and West coasts of the United States, with dangerously high temperatures expected in several regions. Heat alerts are currently in effect for parts of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and upstate New York.

In Maine, temperatures could reach record highs on Monday, with Caribou projected to hit 95 degrees. On Tuesday, Manchester, New Hampshire, and Burlington, Vermont, may also break daily temperature records, with forecasts of 97 degrees and 93 degrees, respectively.

New York City is under an air quality alert on Monday due to rising temperatures. This alert is attributed to the heat trapping human-made air pollution, rather than smoke from wildfires in Canada.

The West is also bracing for extreme heat. In the Northwest, heat alerts are in effect through Tuesday for cities including Portland, Oregon; Seattle, and Spokane, Washington. Portland and Sacramento, California, are expected to reach 99 degrees, while Medford, Oregon, could see temperatures soar to 107 degrees.

In the Southwest, cities such as Las Vegas and Phoenix are facing extreme heat warnings, with temperatures anticipated to climb as high as 113 or 114 degrees through Tuesday. Death Valley, California, is forecasted to experience even more intense heat, with temperatures potentially reaching 122 degrees on both Monday and Tuesday.

Residents are advised to take precautions to stay safe during this extreme heat wave.
