(WABI) - Thousands power customers are without power in Northern Maine Monday morning.

Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative says a Versant Power transmission line has gone offline.

They say the that line feeds electricity to two of Eastern Maine Electric’s substations, which has cut power to most co-op members in southern Aroostook and northern Penobscot counties.

EMEC says they do not know how long it will take for Versant to fix the transmission line.

As of 10:25 a.m., EMEC was reporting 2,636 customers without power.

Versant Power is also reporting outages in southern Aroostook and northern Penobscot counties. As of 10:25, they were reporting 2,861 customers without power.
