NORTH CHARLESTON — A state trooper is fighting for his life in critical condition in an area hospital after he was struck by a box truck while conducting a traffic stop this weekend.

Trooper First Class Dennis Ricks was taken to the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston after being injured while conducting a traffic stop in Orangeburg County, law enforcement agencies said in statements posted to Facebook late on Aug. 10. He remains in critical condition there.

Ricks started with the South Carolina Highway Patrol in January 2023, according to a statement from the agency . He is assigned to Troop 7, Post B, which serves both Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.

Nonprofit Serve and Connect launched a fundraiser for Ricks. All donations will go to his family, according to the South C
