More than three weeks after a “200-year rain event” shut down a frequently traveled road in northern Oakland County, it’s still closed.
But the Road Commission for Oakland County said Consumers Energy crews will be back on Orion Road starting Monday, and it should reopen later this week.
Record rainfall July 16 caused Orion Road at Dutton Road on the Rochester Hills/Oakland Township border to flood and crumble.
Linda Janes, on Canyon Road between Birch Tree Lane and Orion Road, saw, felt and heard the incident. The road closure just means rerouting to Livernois, which is inconvenient but a trade-off for a quieter street with less traffic.
“I love it,” Janes said, referring to the closure at Orion Road, which carries 8,470 vehicles daily.
