NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Tropical Storm Erin became the 5th named storm of the 2025 hurricane season on Monday morning just west of the Cabo Verde Islands. This is the same system that we have been watching with the high chance of development over the past few days. It does not pose a threat to the northern Gulf of America.

Erin is forecast to continue moving west across the central Atlantic over the next few days. Beyond that it will likely start to curve north around a ridge of high pressure. However there is a large spread in the models by the weekend so there is the potential this could get closer to the East Coast than the current forecast shows.
