MIDWAY, Fla. (WCTV) - A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was rushed to the hospital Monday morning following a crash in Midway.

According to FHP, the crash occurred around 6:50 a.m. at the intersection of Blue Star Highway and Commerce Blvd.

FHP confirmed to WCTV that the trooper was attempting to catch up to a speeding vehicle when a white service pick-up truck crashed into the trooper at the intersection, causing heavy front-end damage to the patrol car. The trooper’s lights and sirens were active at the time of the crash.

The trooper got out of the car and collapsed as the car caught on fire.

Two unidentified women pulled the trooper away from the car to safety, according to FHP.
