MENTOR, Ohio — All Mentor schools are expected to have police officers on site starting this school year, which begins Aug. 20, under a new agreement with the city.
The new arrangement updates the program first launched in 2003, when the city assigned a full-time officer to Mentor High School.
Since then, officers have been stationed in other buildings on a contractual basis. Under the revised agreement, permanent part-time officers will be assigned to all schools in the district.
During a July meeting, when council approved the change, Police Chief Ken Gunsch said he felt the new agreement proves that the city and school district is committed to safety.
“The agreement really does a good job of establishing goals, duties and responsibilities for both the city and the school district,”
