A chain reaction collision on Highway 101 in East Palo Alto early Sunday killed one person and left two others with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Two other people suffered minor injuries in the four-vehicle collision, including a man who was allegedly driving under the influence when he rear-ended another driver at about 2 a.m., which began the sequence of other collisions.
The man was driving northbound in a white Acura SUV, when he allegedly rear-ended a gray Toyota Rav4 just south of University Avenue, CHP said in a news release.
The driver of a third vehicle – a white Subaru SUV – crashed into the Toyota immediately after the initial collision, before crashing into the median and suffering injuries that were fatal.
